Ethical Naturals has launched a new line of organic mushroom extracts in collaboration with Nammex called Mushroom-Plus which are formulated for specific health concerns.
The new ingredients contain organic mushroom extracts from Nammex blended with other bioactive ingredients that enhance their beneficial effects and marketability.
“Bill Chioffi, chief strategy and innovation officer of Nammex, works with many of our clients across different sectors to help them develop effective mushroom-based formulations, so we know more brands are blending other actives with mushrooms in foods, beverages, gummies, and traditional dietary supplement forms,” said Jeff Chilton, Nammex founder and president. “ENI has met a growing need in the industry with this new ingredient line, and we were pleased to work with our friends and colleagues on this project.”
“It was important that the mushrooms in this line be standardized, organically certified extracts made from actual mushrooms, not mycelium or starch,” said Cal Bewicke, CEO of Ethical Naturals Inc. “Because I have decades of experience working with Jeff and Nammex, and know their products, this was a perfect fit for our new Mushroom-Plus line.
MycoCalm for Stress Relief
The newest product in the lineup is MycoCalm, a formula designed to support relaxation which contains organic red reishi and an L-theanine ingredient branded as AlphaWave.
“MycoCalm addresses two of the fastest growing segments in the industry today: mushrooms and stress-relief,” said Bewicke. “These two ingredients complement each other extremely well, creating an effective solution in the high demand stress support category.”
AlphaWave L-Theanine is self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and has been the subject of two clinical studies in which it was linked to significant increases in alpha brainwave activity, resulting in improved measures of relaxation and reduced nervous tension without drowsiness.
The reishi extract used for MycoCalm is standardized to 30% beta-D-glucans and contains triterpenes and other naturally-occurring compounds from reishi. Red reishi is a popular herb in Chinese traditional medicine and is used to replenish energy and help with stress.

- Lion’s Mane-Plus, formulated for focus and alertness. The ingredient contains a standardized Lion’s Mane extract and PureLeaf Ginkgo biloba extract. Lion’s Mane mushroom contains hericenones and erinacines that stimulate and support healthy brain cell growth, according to the company.
- Cordyceps-Plus, for energy and endurance. Cordyceps has been used for thousands of years in traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine for its ability to provide healthy immune and energy support. The formula also contains Panax Ginseng extract to enhance these applications.
