GOED (the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s) recently announced the publication of a new webpage and companion infographic catered toward consumers, which provides explanations on the basics of care for omega-3 supplements. The information elaborates on why it is necessary for consumers to handle fish oil and other products with care, such as by storing the products in cool, dark places, limiting exposure to air, and more in order to prevent oxidation of the fish oil, which causes the degradation of EPA and DHA and eventual quality issues.
Additionally, the literature discerns the difference between a mildly briny or fishy smell, which is normal, and an extreme off odor, and that the former should not warrant any safety or efficacy concerns.
Lastly, the resource guides consumers toward products manufactured by GOED member companies, explaining that GOED membership requires companies to commit to safety and efficacy and ethical standards as strict or stricter than those found in any set of regulations globally. Currently, the association represents 200 companies active in the EPA and DHA omega-3 industry, including all segments of the supply chain.
