Ingredients By Nature, a California-based ingredients supplier, announced a partnership with Israel-based Galam to distribute a new prebiotic fiber called GOFOS exclusively to the nutraceuticals industry.
GOFOS is a short-chain fructo-oligosaccharide (sc-FOS) that acts as a soluble, prebiotic, non-digestible fiber. It is produced from non-GMO beet sugar by a proprietary enzymatic process, and is formulated to promote the growth and activity of beneficial gut microbiota to maintain a healthy gut. GOFOS also stands as a strong alternative in a prebiotic fibers market that currently has a shortage of inulin, with sc-FOS only found in small concentrations in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
“The partnership of IBN with Galam is a perfect match to bring this superior prebiotic to the American nutraceuticals market,” Rob Brewster, president of IBN, said. “In addition to providing GOFOS on its own, we will also be distributing the newly created GOFOS with ‘low water activity’ designed for greater stability when blended with our high-quality Brewster Brand probiotics, which have a symbiotic effect for enhancing immune support.”
According to IBN, GOFOS’ health benefits include promoted growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, promoting the management of weight and blood sugar, and immune support. Additionally, sc-FOS may improve the absorption of calcium and magnesium, making the ingredient a good candidate for inclusion in mineral blends as well.
IBN reports that GOFOS’ health benefits can be achieved through a dosage of as low as 2.5 grams daily. GOFOS also delivers a sweet taste, 30% as sweet as sucrose, and it is highly soluble. It is GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) and FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) approved, and is non-GMO, allergen-free, kosher, halal, and meets the FCC monograph for Fructo-oligosaccharides.
