Today, Gelatin Representatives of the World (GROW), a new trade association representing companies involved in selling, producing, and researching gelatin ingredients, announced its debut. Forming a globally centralized trade organization will consolidate resources toward consumer awareness and dialogue with stakeholders regarding gelatin products.
In the space of nutraceuticals, collagen peptides tend to be the most common type of ingredient that this group specializes in, used for their role in joint health and cosmetic benefits, while other types of gelatin appear frequently in a wide range of food categories.
The company is comprised of four gelatin associations: The Gelatin Manufacturers Association of Asia Pacific (GMAP); Gelatin Manufacturers of Europe (GME); Gelatin Manufacturers Institute of America (GMIA); and the South American Gelatin Manufacturers Association (SAGMA).
“The mission of the worldwide group is to raise awareness of the benefits of gelatin and collagen peptides all around the globe, while also strengthening the global dialog with stakeholders and ensuring safe, natural, and reliable products,” Greet Hombroux, chair of GROW, said.
GROW reports that its formation came at a time when “international, national, and regional regulatory framework is becoming increasingly complex” for the gelatin products industry, and that the four founding member associations have had a long history of cooperating on the ends of safety and testing.
“In the interest of customers, consumers, and the gelatin and collagen peptides sectors worldwide, sharing information regularly, aligning on key issues, and the need for effective global communication are clearly essential,” the organization said in a statement.
In addition, GROW will serve as an interchange about information on the different regulatory environments across multiple regions, and will serve as a hub for scientific information to its members and the public. Additionally, GROW will work on the improvement of analytical methods and global testing standards, and support worldwide free trade of both gelatin and collagen peptides.
“The dialog is important not only for GROW members,” the announcement continued. “GROW also strives to inform, educate, and communicate with customers and the media on the benefits of their products.”
