OmegaQuant, an independent lab that offers consumers, healthcare practitioners, and researchers a test that measures intake of omega-3 fatty acids, has landed on Inc. Magazine’s 5,000 list. This is the second year in a row that the company has been recognized by the prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing companies in the American economy’s most dynamic segment – small, independent businesses.
OmegaQuant ranked 2,863 in the list after a year in which it experienced 140% growth, sharing a platform of early national exposure that other companies including Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Patagonia, and other well-known names were first featured on as honorees.
“The companies on this year’s Inc. 5,000 come from nearly every realm of business,” Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk said. “From health and software to media and hospitality, the 2020 list proves that no matter the sector, incredible growth is based on the foundations of tenacity and opportunism.”
“Receiving this award last year and now this year is further proof that we are on the right track as a business,” Jason Polreis, CEO of OmegaQuant, said. “We are motivated by the intense interest from healthcare providers, brands, and individuals, all of whom want to use this simple, safe, convenient test to manage intake of omega-3s.”
Omega-3s are one of the most popular dietary supplement ingredients, and nutrients in general, on the market. However, there’s no objective way to determine if someone is getting enough through their diet without a measurement of their blood levels of EPA and DHA.
OmegaQuant was founded in 2009 by William Harris, PhD, a researcher who has published more than 300 papers on fatty acids, in order to commercialize the Omega-3 Index Test he co-invented in 2004. Since its invention, the Omega-3 Index Test has been used in more than 100 research papers.
Samples for the test are acquired using a simple finger stick and a drop of blood. Additionally, OmegaQuant now offers a prenatal DHA test and a vitamin D test, with more nutritional status tests slated for the pipeline, the company said. Samples are then sent to the OmegaQuant lab for analysis, and, in response, recipients are provided a report which includes the Omega-3 Index results, ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3s, AA/EPA ratio, trans fat index, as well as individualized recommendations.
“We continue to build the evidence base for the Omega-3 Index by working with some of the most prestigious research institutions in the world,” Harris said. “To date, we’ve worked with more than 100 of them, including the U.S. Army, Harvard, Tufts, Columbia, Stanford, Oxford, and more. We believe in the power of the Omega-3 Index not only to assess one’s status, but also to arm them with important information about their diet and lifestyle. The Omega-3 Index has real clinical implications, particularly for heart and brain health, and we’re proud of how well it has been received by the medical and scientific communities, as well as by individuals.”
