Folium Biosciences, a major wholesaler of CBD oil and other phytocannabinoid-rich hemp extracts with 0.0% THC, has completed buildout and received a certificate of occupancy for the world’s largest cannabinoid extraction and purification facility, located in Pueblo West, Colorado.
The new 110,000 square foot facility will produce up to 22,000 kg of 0.0% THC, broad-spectrum CBD oil each month. To satisfy accelerating demand from CBD product manufacturers worldwide, the plant has dedicated production lines to meet CCBD regulatory requirements in the U.S., E.U., Japan, and South Korea, among other countries.
The Folium facility, which is FDA-registered and state-of-the-art, is purpose-built for the extraction and purification of cannabinoids and terpenes found within industrial hemp. The plant will utilize supercritical carbon dioxide extraction technology exclusively to produce phytocannabinoid-rich CBD oil, adhering to a continuous process from decarboxylation to extraction that allows for an inline terpene capture system.
“This past year really has bene a ‘survival of the fittest’ moment for the CBD industry,” Folium CEO and co-founder Kashif Shan said. “Pandemic-related economic uncertainty has forced many manufacturers to cut back operations or completely go out of business. I’m proud to say that Folium has moved aggressively in the other direction – looking at 2020 instead as a year to invest and solidify our leadership position. Completing construction on this new world-class manufacturing facility is a testament to the strength of our market position. We move into 2021 with unrivaled capacity, ready to satisfy demand for the highest-quality CBD oil for businesses all over the world.”
Folium has operations in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to provide a global reach as the cannabinoid industry continues its growth. The Pueblo West facility will enable Folium to scale is manufacturing, and create new channels for its products.
“Though our vision is global, we know the foundation for our success is local, in the Colorado communities in which we live and work,” Shan said. “This milestone would not have been possible without the incredibly hard work of the Folium buildout team, our construction partners, and the city of Pueblo Building Department, Fire Department, and other officials, who worked throughout the COVID-19 crisis to get this project done.”
