A recent pilot study published in MDPI’s Nutrients showed Wellnex collagen peptides from Nitta Gelatin demonstrated a positive effect on brain structure and cognitive language ability.
Researchers from the Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan conducted the open-label study. Thirty healthy participants (49-63 years; 26 men and 4 women) consumed 5 grams of Wellnex collagen peptides once daily over a 4-week period. Subjects were then assessed using MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) to analyze structural changes within the brain, including fractional anisotropy (FA-BHQ), in addition to verbal learning tests including word list memory (WLM) and standard verbal paired associate learning (S-PA).
Ingestion of Wellnex collagen peptides was linked with significant improvements in FA-BHQ (p = 0.0095), and scores for the WLM (p = 0.0046) and S-PA (p = 0.0007) tests.
This study opens the door to further research related to the benefits of collagen peptide supplementation on human cognitive function.
