Last month, the Sami-Sabinsa Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing unit at Pharma SEZ Industrial Area, Hassan, Karnataka. The latest facility, funded by a planned investment of $30 million, is part of the group’s strategy to expand existing ingredient growth and focus on creating new products. This will be the company’s eighth manufacturing facility.
Shri. Prajwal Gowda, Member of Parliament, Hassan, and Shri. Preetham J. Gowda, Member of the Legislative Assembly, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony, along with the senior management team of Sami-Sabinsa Group and employees of Sami Labs.
“We have been doing business in India for nearly three decades now, and our business has grown rapidly over the years,” Dr. Muhammed Majeed, founder and chairman of the Sami-Sabinsa Group, said. “The upcoming production facility at Hassan will not only empower us to cater to the entire global market with patented and off-patent API products but will also play a vital role in boosting the export sales of the Sami-Sabinsa Group and help in doubling the company revenue.”
The group designed the 430,556 square-foot unit to have a production capacity of over 300 tons each year, with the goal of zero liquid discharge, responsible water management, energy efficiency, and biodiversity development. The facility will be compliant with all regulatory requirements and cGMPs, according to Sabinsa. It is scheduled for commissioning by 2021, and is slated to employ approximately 400 people in and around Hassan.
