Essential Formulas’ Science Director Ross Pelton, RPh, PhD, CCN won first place honors for his poster abstract on “Postbiotic Metabolites: The New Frontier in Microbiome Science” during the Microbiome & Probiotics Series: USA annual conference held Oct. 29-30, in San Diego, CA.
Pelton’s scientific abstract was one of 17 preliminary entries chosen by the Microbiome & Probiotics Scientific Committee and showcased during the symposium. The poster abstracts were selected based on a presentation of the most significant developments in the field of microbiome science. Winning first place provided Pelton the opportunity to give an oral presentation to conference attendees, including leading scientists in the microbiome and probiotic arenas.
The exposition of “Postbiotic Metabolites: The New Frontier in Microbiome Science” depicted the critical roles that postbiotics play in the regulation of health and the maintenance of a healthy microbiome.
Postbiotics is a term that refers to the vast array of compounds that are produced by the metabolic activity of probiotic bacteria during the natural fermentation process. These substances are collectively called postbiotic metabolites. They include various vitamins, enzymes, short-chain fatty acids, and other organic acids like fulvic acid, which is key to the absorption and transport of minerals and amino acids.
A 3-year fermented whole food supplement, Dr. Ohhira’s award-winning probiotic formula contains prebiotics, probiotics, and, postbiotic metabolites.
"A pioneer in probiotic health and research, Dr. Ohhira verified decades ago what science now confirms, that the most vital and health-promoting aspect of probiotic supplementation is in the 500 plus restorative metabolites produced in his exclusive 3-year fermentation process," said Pelton. "I was elated to earn this esteemed honor and be able to present Dr. Ohhira's life’s work and educate others on his revolutionary formula."
