According to the National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA), Santa Ana, CA, FDA moved one step closer to publishing a final rule on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for dietary supplements in late October when the proposed regulation was sent to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review. NNFA says OMB conducts in-depth analyses of regulations and can be the last stop in the rulemaking process. Experts predict that the review could take up to 90 days, after which the OMB has the option of sending it back to FDA for additional changes. Many experts believe that the industry will see a final rule on dietary supplement GMPs by early 2006.
