‘We want to support the health and safety of our healthcare community who are risking their lives as they continue to combat the virus,’ said CEO Jay Kaufman.

A growing shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) is putting healthcare workers and their patients at risk, as hospitals scramble to source masks, respirators, face shields, and gowns in their effort to combat COVID-19.

Torrance, CA-based dietary supplement manufacturer Paragon Laboratories said it will donate 3,600 N95 respirator face masks to local hospitals in the Southern California area.

“We want to support the health and safety of our healthcare community who are risking their lives as they continue to combat the virus,” said Jay Kaufman, CEO of Paragon Laboratories. “We recognize and appreciate all of their efforts and are continuing to work with area hospitals to see where we can offer our additional support.”

N95 respirators are different than standard surgical face masks in that they’re able to form a tight enough seal to filter out at least 95% of particles in the air, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Surgical masks, comparatively, are loose-fitting and do not protect the wearer as well against airborne particles, which is a risk factor for those treating patients with the virus.
