Blue California says it anticipates receiving GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) self-affirmation for Rebaudioside A 99%, an isolated compound from the stevia plant. The company started production of this purified ingredient in December 2007. Its GRAS self-affirmation review began in February by a panel of scientists with extensive knowledge and expertise regarding FDA regulations. This independent scientific panel completed the preliminary review and the company expected documents to be signed this past August.
