Global ingredient supplier Kerry recently launched Radicle Solution Finder, a web-based tool which allows users to get instant information on plant-based formulation challenges. It is available online for use on any device with a web browser, and can aid in developing new products for the rapidly emerging plant-based market.
 
Upon opening the Radicle Solution Finder, users can select their target category, either a meat or dairy alternative. From there, they can filter their challenges according to four main drop-down menus: taste, nutrition, functionality, and plant protein/dairy alternatives. From there users can select from a list of relevant challenges, such as adding authentic taste flavors, clean label solutions, food protection, texture challenges, and more. The user is presented with a range of solutions based on their selections, which provides more information.

Manufacturers and operators are responding to growing interest in high-quality plant-based foods by innovating with alternative sources, additional formats, and adventurous flavors, Kerry said. There are still some barriers consumers experience, including taste, texture, and performance, but also for the innate challenges encountered during formulation. The Radicle Solution Finder’s goal is to help customers create deliver products which are sustainable, nutritionally optimized, clean-label, and appealing to concerns related to authentic taste and texture, the company said. Many of the solutions are designed to deliver authentic meat and dairy flavors, mask off-notes, boost overall flavor, and create “craveability,” the company added.
