The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD), of Health Canada, has concluded that HP Ingredients‘ application for its proprietary bergamot ingredient known as BERGAMONTE BPF “is in compliance pursuant to section 7 of the Natural Health Products Regulations (NHPR),” and has thus issued product license NPN #80068556 for BERGAMONTE BPF capsules.
 
Further, the following claims are now allowed to be made for Canadian Bergamonte products (500 mg):

• Helps maintain/ support healthy (total, LDL-,HDL-,) cholesterol levels.
• Helps maintain/support cardiovascular health.
• Provides antioxidants. 

“This NPN License could not be more timely—it comes on the heels of three studies showing BERGAMONTE BPF’s ability to help millions of consumers to address metabolic syndrome and liver support in particular non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a condition that exacerbates unhealthy cholesterol levels, blood sugar insufficiency and weight/fat accumulation,” said Annie Eng, CEO of HP Ingredients. Instead of taking multiple supplements targeted cholesterol, blood sugar and weight control, BERGAMONTE BPF will be efficacious, as well as convenient and economical for consumers.”
 
BERGAMONTE BPF contains bioactive compounds of extract of the juice and albedo of citrus bergamia risso, standardized to > 30% polyphenolic flavonoids consisting of Naringin, Neohesperidin, Neoeriocitrin, 1% Melitidine, and 2% Brutelidine.  These flavonoids are clinically proven to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels, healthy blood glucose level, and increase HDL-cholesterol, according to the company. Bergamonte is produced using patented extraction technology.
 
Earlier this year, HP Ingredients was also awarded an NPN product license #80067049 for LJ100 capsules, 100 mg, with four approved health claims.
