Health Canada Issues Claim for Fermented Soy Ingredient to Support Gastrointestinal Health

Lallemand Bio-Ingredients’ Gastro-AD has been studied in over 600 people suffering from GERD, heartburn, ulcers and other gut health issues.

Health Canada has approved a health claim for Lallemand Bio-Ingredients’ Gastro-AD, recognizing its ability to support intestinal/gastrointestinal health (NPN 80112011). Gastro-AD is soy fermented by Lactobacillus delbrueckii, ssp. delbrueckii also known as Rosell-187 or R-187.

This Canadian health claim confirms previous research results which have shown Gastro-AD to soothe symptoms of occasional heartburn and acid reflux and maintain quality of life in people experiencing occasional heartburn symptoms.

Gastro-AD is natural, containing no synthetic ingredients, and has been studied in over 600 people suffering from gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, ulcers and other gut health complications, according to Lallemand.

The claim and NPN are supported by the results of a 2020 study. The effect of Gastro-AD was examined on heartburn, gastrointestinal symptoms and heartburn-related quality of life indicators.

Lallemand recommends Gastro-AD to be consumed in powder form, by teaspoon or a sachet. It can be formulated with various flavors and sweeteners.

“We are very pleased that Health Canada has formally recognized the scientifically proven benefits of Gastro-AD for gastrointestinal health,” Celia Martin, regulatory affairs director for Lallemand Bio-Ingredients. “Gastro-AD is unique in the market, as a natural solution for gastric comfort providing real benefits and has actually been proven to work, which is why it has a health claim.”
