GC Rieber Vivomega Completes Construction of $75 Million Facility

The expansion includes a storage tank park, electric steam boiler, heating capabilities, and the ability to add nitrogen to improve sensory profiles.

GC Rieber VivoMega has announced the grand opening of a new omega-3 manufacturing facility in Norway. The new facility will double the company’s output of high-end triglyceride marine EPA and DHA and certified vegan EPA and DHA oils.

“This is an exciting time for GC Rieber VivoMega and our customers,” said Snorre Glærum Strand, CEO at GC Rieber VivoMega. “With the supply of fish oils starting to normalize somewhat thanks to improvements in ongoing fishery, and the growing demand for sustainable, traceable, high-quality omega-3 increases, this new facility allows us to meet the varying consumer needs, including a vegan alternative EPA & DHA.”

The expansion investment included a 38,000 metric ton storage tank park; an electric steam boiler which will allow three facilities to run on 100% renewable energy; heating capabilities to maintain the quality of oils for easier extraction in winter; and additional nitrogen to remove oxygen for improved sensory profile.

“To further minimize our eco-footprint, we utilized much of the existing infrastructure, including docks, tanks, and laboratories. We are also proud to announce that this addition will bring new jobs to GCRV as we continue to grow,” said Glærum Strand.

The new manufacturing campus aligns with the EU Green Deal initiatives and UN Global Compact guidelines. GC Rieber Vivomega is also SEDEX-certified.
