FDA to Hold Public Meeting on ‘Responsible Innovation in Dietary Supplements’

May 16 hearing to cover new dietary ingredient notifications and challenges and opportunities in promoting compliance.

The FDA is planning to take new steps to modernize and strengthen the regulation of dietary supplements. To that end, the agency is inviting public input on May 16 about whether and how it might adjust its current dietary supplement regulatory approach and enforcement policies to better account for the growth seen in the dietary supplement industry over the past 25 years.

FDA is seeking to have a broad representation of ideas and issues presented at the meeting. The agency expects to cover a range of subjects, including: the scope of what is a dietary ingredient, clarification of exemptions from the requirement for pre-market new dietary ingredient (NDI) notification, and challenges and opportunities in promoting overall compliance with the NDI notification requirement through avenues such as marketing advantages and enforcement.

For more information about the meeting, as well as how to participate or submit written comments afterward, see FDA Event Page.
