EyePromise, a supplement brand specializing in supplements supporting eye health, recently announced the launch of BrainPromise, a formula featuring essential vitamins, minerals, and the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin.
 
Specifically, the supplement contains vitamins A, C, D3, E, B6, B12, folic acid, zinc, selenium, manganese, omega-3s, alpha lipoic acid, bilberry, CoQ10, zeaxanthin, lutein, mixed tocotrienols/tocopherols, and a proprietary blend.
 
The proprietary blend features benfotiamine, NAC, resveratrol, Pycnogenol, and extracts of turmeric and green tea.  
 
“We have been researching the effects of protective carotenoids on the eye for years, which provided a unique window into the brain,” said Dennis Gierheart, PhD, chairman and cofounder. “As the eyes are an extension of the brain, it turns out what is good for the eyes is also good for the brain. Zeaxanthin and lutein levels in the back of the eye can be measured through a biomarker called MPOD, macular pigment optical density, which is also and indicator of the levels found in the brain.”
 
According to the company, zeaxanthin and lutein can protect tissue from oxidative stress, and may offer benefits to cognitive performance. The brand has been advocating for the use of MPOD as a biomarker since 2007, enabling patients and consumers to verify that their supplements are effective, and manufactures the Zx Pro MPOD measurement device, used by eye doctors throughout the U.S.The handheld device measures macular pigment on a simple 0-1 scale.
