Corbion, a supplier of algae-based feed ingredients, announced its first venture in the human nutrition industry with the launch of its AlgaVia line of products.
 
The ingredients, rich in omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids, are produced through algal fermentation with an aim to reduce pressure on marine resources as well as carbon footprint associated with the production of dietary supplements.
 
The introduction of AlgaVia comes at a time when Corbion anticipates that the human nutrition industry will reach $566.8 billion by 2028.

The algae oil portfolio contains products rich in omega-3s and omega-9s which can reach higher concentrations needed to support brain health, immune function, eye health, and heart health in humans. The ingredients are available to supplement manufacturers through leading omegas refiners and concentrators.
 
Corbion achieves a low environmental impact and carbon footprint by isolating microalgae from nature for fermentation. It has assembled a library of more than 9,000 strains developed for use in active nutritional ingredients. The company’s high-throughput process can isolate thousands of cells per minute to determine which variant has the exact lipid and DHA content to bring to scale. The company tests 9,000 samples weekly under carefully controlled conditions to achieve maximum productivity.
