Bioriginal, a subsidiary of Cooke Inc., has acquired all operating assets of Softgel Co., including a softgel, squeeze tube, and tincture manufacturing facility that specialized in encapsulating human and pet nutrition products.

Softgel Co. has over a decade of encapsulation experience and the ability to produce over one million softgels per shift, and its acquisition can help Bioriginal to provide security of its supply across the globe, all under the company’s vertical integration model. The Softgel facility will be taking steps to double its capacity to meet Bioriginal’s demand.

“Thanks to the support of our clients and partners, we are fortunate to be in a position where we can expand with industry leaders, like Softgel,” said Shannon Sears, president and CEO of Bioriginal. “The addition of Softgel expands Bioriginal’s global supply abilities, removing the need to outsource softgel production, improving production efficiencies, and enhancing supply chain management. This level of vertical integration ensures what is on the label is in the bottle. Consumers deserve that level of confidence.”

Softgel is the fourth business Bioriginal acquired in 2023. Earlier this year, the organization bought Fatory, a pet treat manufacturing facility in the Netherlands; Kroppenstedter Ölmühle, a plant-based oil processing facility in Germany; and Cana Corp, a trading corporation in Yokohama, Japan that has since been rebranded as Bioriginal Asia.

Bioriginal now operates seven manufacturing facilities on two continents, and has offices in Canada, the U.S., the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan, supported by 18 warehouses.
