Bioenergy Life Science (BLS) has been awarded two U.S. patents for its AMPk-activating nutraceutical technology. The first patent covers the use of D-Ribose, which BLS brands as Bioenergy Ribose, as a method of upregulating AMPk, PGC-1a, and citrate synthase. The second patent covers the method and composition for enhancing AMPk in mammals.

AMPk plays a role as a precursor to the endogenous production of ATP, BLS reports. ATP is the energy currency of every cell, and AMPk activation is thought to serve as a signal to generate more energy. Activated AMPk is associated with fat burning, inflammation modulation, mitochondrial function, and more, according to BLS.

“Several pre-clinical trials have demonstrated orally administered low doses of Bioenergy Ribose, available as RiboActiv, significantly activated AMPk, independent of exercise and without exercise,” said Michael Crabtree, ND, director of scientific affairs.

“These patents, based on our proprietary research, give brands formulating with Bioenergy Ribose and/or RiboActiv a powerful marketing and scientific edge,” said Crabtree. “RiboActiv is our low hermetic-dose of Bioenergy Ribose, which is still the only patented and scientifically proven D-Ribose on the market. For forward-thinking formulators, this means the opportunity to stand apart with a truly unique AMPk activator.”

While other ingredients make AMPk activation claims, “only ours has the unique ability to act through the purine salvage pathway,” said Crabtree. “This helps optimize mitochondrial function and has been shown to upregulate the PGC-1a, an important molecule for fat loss and energy metabolism regulation.”

RiboActiv is suitable for modern, consumer-friendly formats like oral strips, mints, time-release tablets, gummies, and functional foods and beverages.
