Company’s Superba 2 possesses enhanced encapsulation properties as well as improved smell, taste and visual appearance.

Aker BioMarine, a leading supplier of krill-derived products to the consumer health and wellness and animal nutrition markets, continues to reinvigorate the omega-3 industry. In addition to introducing Superba Boost at Vitafoods, Aker BioMarine introduced Superba 2 at the Natural Products Expo West show in the U.S. in March. Considered the next generation of Superba Krill Oil, Superba 2 possesses enhanced encapsulation properties as well as improved smell, taste and visual appearance. Like Superba Boost, Superba 2 is produced using Flexitech, a new and patented technology platform exclusive to Aker BioMarine.

A game changer in the omega-3 industry, according to the company, Flexitech will focus on two key areas: detection and concentration. This technology will give the company the ability to up-concentrate krill oil’s beneficial components (i.e., Superba Boost), such as phospholipids and omega-3s while removing salts (i.e., Superba 2), which can lead to off odors and taste. These substantial improvements can yield potential health claims in some markets and give customers more potency per capsule. It will also appeal to all industry players from brand owners and encapsulators to formulators, and even down to the end user.

Aker BioMarine recently opened a new facility in Houston, TX, which is home to this new technology platform and expanded product portfolio. The new plant will enable the company to create new and better products, while enhancing its 100% traceable and sustainable position in the omega-3 market. Aker now owns and controls 100% of its supply chain—from catch to capsule, reassuring all customers that they will continue to receive a secure supply volume and product quality, as well as seamless service.
