Symrise AG has obtained a long-term loan of €125 million from the European Investment Bank to fund its intensive research and development activities. A specific focus of these activities will be on functional ingredients used in the areas of skin care and healthy nutrition.
Symrise’s research and development work will also continue to place an emphasis on the accelerated development of functional ingredients, which will be offered by the Life Essentials and Consumer Health business units. The market segments for care products and food with additional benefits have been growing at an above-average rate for a number of years due to the increased consumer awareness for a balanced way of life.
In Fiscal Year 2012, Symrise AG employed more than 1,100 people in research and development alone. The company’s new research and development facility commenced operations at the Holzminden site in April. The activities of the Scent & Care and Flavor & Nutrition divisions will be combined here, promoting interdisciplinary scientific discussions.
