Full enforcement of current GMPs represents the strongest way to ensure safety and quality of imported dietary supplement ingredients, not country of origin labeling (COOL), according to the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), Washington, D.C. The group says imposing additional COOL requirements on supplement labeling adds costs without benefiting consumers. Knowing the source of an ingredient is not an indicator of safety, CRN argues, and is less relevant than knowing the manufacturer has imposed high standards at every step of production.
