The National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, New York, NY, has determined that Soft Gel Technologies and Optio Health Products, have provided adequate substantiation for claims made in print advertising and on product packaging for Clarinol CLA. As part of an ongoing initiative with the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), Washington, D.C., to expand review of advertising for dietary supplements, NAD examined several claims related to the supplement’s ability to assist in reducing body fat and maintaining lean muscle tissue. NAD examined evidence in support of the advertising claims that included one study on the actual product, and many others on the active ingredient, and determined that the studies followed sound methodologies and produced statistically significant results demonstrating a reduction in body fat mass, as well as an increase in lean mass.
