University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign researchers have developed a new method for lowering elevated homocysteine levels in humans. A naturally occurring compound commonly found in seaweed, according to the findings, is efficient in reducing and normalizing high levels of homocysteine, which has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease and cartilage degradation.
