Burcon NutraScience Corporation, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in conjunction with its alliance partner, ADM, Decatur, IL, has completed an important process in the path toward the commercialization of Puratein® and Supertein™. Burcon and ADM have now completed the process-identification stage of development allowing the initiation of the process to obtain regulatory recognition for canola protein as GRAS from FDA. Completion of the process-identification stage was a critical step in canola protein’s development, according to the company. In order to obtain GRAS status from FDA it was first necessary to confirm the source of canola and the processing conditions to be employed in the commercial production of canola protein.
