Cargill, Minneapolis, MN, and Riceland Foods, Stuttgart, AK, have formed a strategic alliance to manufacture, market and sell lecithin products to food, pharmaceutical and technical customers worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, lecithin produced by Riceland at its U.S. facility will be marketed and distributed by Cargill.
In other news, Cargill and Hayashibara Co., Ltd., Okayama, Japan, have negotiated rights to the European marketplace for trehalose. The agreement positions Cargill Health & Food Technologies as the sole distributor of trehalose in Europe. The company’s Ascend™ trehalose product is known for its ability to stabilize proteins and enhance flavors. Ascend has a clean, mildly sweet flavor making it ideal for sports drinks as well as a variety of food applications.
Cargill has also participated in the latest funding round for NutriJoy, Inc., (“Nutrition to Enjoy”), Manhattan, KS, an early-stage company devoted to developing good tasting, high nutrition consumer foods and beverages. As part of the investment, Cargill, operating through its Cargill Venture’s business unit, will obtain a seat on NutriJoy’s board of directors.
Lastly, Cargill officially commenced production of its corn-based Regenasure™ shellfish-free glucosamine at a kick-off celebration on June 5th at its new Eddyville, IA, production facility. The Regenasure product, made from corn, is Kosher approved and is currently the only American-produced glucosamine on the market. Developers will be able to broaden the scope of potential delivery systems without the current concerns over shellfish derived material.
