AIDP: Diversity Fuels Company Growth
AIDP Inc., City of Industry, CA, was founded in 1996 by Edward Lee to exclusively represent a major vitamin C factory in China. However, soon after its birth, AIDP began to focus on the growing sports nutrition industry. Six years later the company is able to provide a full line of ingredients including vitamins, herbal extracts, specialty chemicals and chelated minerals to the food, beverage and supplement industries.
The company’s portfolio boasts a wide array of products that cover a broad spectrum of the nutraceutical landscape. Edward Lee, president, discussed some of AIDP’s offerings in more detail. “In addition to normal powder grade we have granulated materials, chelated minerals, premixes and blends to meet customer needs,” he said. “AIDP also has a number of exclusive products such as granulated spirulina, Quikosan™ fast-dissolving chitosan, tablet grade calcium citrate, D-ribose granular and Kolla2™ collagen type II from chicken sternum. We also recently introduced D-biotin and high density fermented L-glutamine from China.”
According to Mr. Lee, more and more companies are reducing the number of vendors and he credits AIDP’s growth to the company’s ability to offer a wide range of quality products to its customers. AIDP maintains its focus on service by introducing new products and improving the characteristics of commodity products, which allowcustomers to save time.
Mr. Lee also explained that cost saving is driving much of the market, which is why the company has ventured into vitamin premixes. “We find that customers do not want to order a large number of products and they want to eliminate dead inventory. Much dead inventory is due to not being able to order the exact amount needed,” he said, adding, “By allowing manufacturers to order the exact quantity of premixed components, dead inventory is eliminated and labor costs are greatly reduced.”
Quality and efficacy are also at the heart of AIDP’s operations as it is committed to serving not just its customers’ interest, but also to bring to market high quality products that benefit the consumer. He explained, “When we developed Quikosan™ chitosan we demonstrated its effectiveness through a human study, which showed Quikosan’s ability to reduce blood triglycerides by an average of 10 times its weight when taken five minutes before a meal,” he said.
For the future Mr. Lee said AIDP will continue to form partnerships with leaders in specialty markets in an effort to offer products with unique capabilities as well as to improve the physical characteristics of popular products.
“AIDP is built on the idea that nutraceuticals are an important part of the alternative health movement, which is the key to improving the health and welfare of consumers,” concluded Mr. Lee. “We gain great satisfaction for doing our part in this endeavor.”—T.W.
