NNFA Names 2002
Award Recipients
Newport Beach, CA-based NNFA has named the recipients of its Presidents Award, Rachel Carson Environmental Award, Burton Kallman Scientific Achievement Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and the NNFA Crusader Awards.
Health practitioner Dr. Earl Mindell is this year’s recipient of the Presidents Award, which is presented to an individual who has made long time contributions to the natural products industry or has made a one time, uniquely significant impact on the industry. Alice Water’s, owner of the restaurant Chez Panisse, Berkeley, CA, was the recipient of the Rachel Carson Environmental Award, which was created to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the protection of the environment. Jeffrey Blumberg is a professor in the School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and specializes in antioxidant research. He is this year’s recipient of the Burton Kallman Scientific Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding scientific contributions to the natural products industry. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) has been chosen as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. This award acknowledges individuals outside the natural products industry who have been advocates of the industry in the political and legislative arena.
Last year NNFA created a new category that recognizes individuals who have made notable contributions to the natural products industry above and beyond commercial success. Recipients of the 2002 Crusaders Awards include Randy Dennin, vice president of global business development and dietary supplements for Capsugel, Cheryl Hughes, owner of the Whole Wheatery and Natcheryls’ Cafe, radio talk show host Deborah Ray of The Deborah Ray Show and Martie Whittekin, specialist for the Center for Integrative Medicine, radio talk show host of Healthy By Nature, owner of Vital Nutrition and author of Don’t Be Fooled into Being Fat.
