Romaco: “One-Stop-Shop” For Nutraceutical Packaging and Processing
Romaco, Morris Plains, NJ, manufactures a wide range of high quality packaging and processing machinery for the nutraceuticals industry. At the forefront of Romaco’s nutraceutical machinery program is its encapsulation technology. Founded a decade ago, Romaco supplies both standardized machines and equipment customized to the specific needs of its customers. The company currently has 12 manufacturing centers, each specializing in one area of processing or packaging technology.
In terms of capabilities, Romaco offers two distinctly different dosing systems, the Index “Multiple-Tamping”(shown here) and the Macofar “Vacuum-Assist,” in a line of capsule fillers reaching speeds up to 150,000 capsules per hour. New additions to Romaco’s capsule and tablet packaging equipment line include the new Bosspak RTC continuous motion rotary tablet/capsule counting and filling machine and the new Noack 623 wide-web platen blister packaging machine. The new Promatic AS300 continuous motion cartoner, Siebler strip-packaging systems and Laetus packaging security systems complete the product portfolio.
Today, a network of 15 sales, service and technical centers located around the globe complements Romaco’s manufacturing operations, with additional centers slated to open in 2000.
Most recently, Romaco acquired machinery manufacturer Fryma, Reinfelden, Switzerland. Fryma specializes in fluid processing equipment for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and food industries. According to Romaco president Robert Fenwick-Smith, this is the company’s largest acquisition yet and follows three packaging equipment manufacturer acquisitions in 1999, which included Bosspack, manufacturer of tablet and liquid filling lines, Index, a producer of high-speed capsule filling machinery and Siebler, a strip packaging systems manufacturer.
In addition to sales, service, engineering and spare parts departments, Romaco’s Morris Plains site also includes a laboratory facility where customers can run product trials under the guidance of its laboratory staff, as well as a packaging machinery showroom for machinery demonstrations. —R.M.
