ChromaDex Corporation Irvine, CA, has released findings from a Phase 2/3 trial at the University of Mississippi Medical Center showing its patented nutritional ingredient pTeroPure (pterostilbene) significantly reduced blood pressure in adults. The findings from the study, which are the first clinical trial of the pure compound, were presented at the American Heart Association's High Blood Pressure Research 2012 Scientific Sessions. pTeroPure is a nature-identical form of pterostilbene, an antioxidant found in blueberries, which has excellent biological activity, and is believed to support health, cognitive function, anti-aging and weight loss among others.
"We saw reduced overall blood pressure in patients who received the high dose of pterostilbene," said the study's principal investigator, Daniel M. Riche, PharmD, Cardiometabolic Clinic Coordinator at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. "The results of this study highlight that pterostilbene is a promising ingredient in the area of cardiometabolics."
