A double-blind, randomized clinical study published in the journal Food Digestion has demonstrated the effects of adding Aminogen, an enzyme supplement from Triarco Industries, Wayne, NJ, to whey protein. The study found the patented enzyme did not adversely affect clinical measures of cardiovascular, metabolic or renal-hepatic safety. In the study, 40 healthy, active men ages 18-45 maintaining a regimen of resistance training, were divided into two groups and received either 50 grams of whey protein or 50 grams of protein with 1.5 grams of Aminogen twice a day for 30 days. Neither the subjects nor the experimenters were aware which group had received the patented enzyme. In addition to finding no adverse effects on clinical measures of safety, the study also found that the group of subjects taking whey protein without Aminogen experienced a significant increase in total and LDL cholesterol while the group taking Aminogen did not.
