Health Canada has recently added resistant maltodextrin (Fibersol-2 from ADM/Matsutani LLC) to its list of approved novel fiber ingredients that can be used in the Canadian food and beverage marketplace. Fibersol-2 has been reviewed by the Food Directorate of Health Canada and has received no objection as a safe novel fiber for labeling as a dietary fiber source in Canada.
“We are excited to bring Canadian consumers an ingredient that can help them meet their dietary fiber needs,” said Dr. Brent Flickinger, vice president of regulatory and scientific affairs, ADM. “Consumers understand the importance of dietary fiber. Years of scientific study have shown evidence that Fibersol delivers various properties of dietary fiber. Around the world, Fibersol has been acknowledged as a dietary fiber including its assessed impacts on attenuating post-meal blood glucose and/or intestinal health.”
Fibersol’s line of ingredients allow manufacturers the ability to “close the gap” and reach desired fiber content. Manufacturers can now provide products for health-conscious Canadian consumers that give them the dietary fiber they need without sacrificing the taste, aroma and texture they want. Fibersol’s line of ingredients can easily be added to existing formulations with minimal adjustments, making Fibersol ideal for line extensions. Fibersol can be used to improve the nutritional profile and increase the fiber content of virtually any food product. This high-quality fiber ingredient stays consistent no matter what the form. Fibersol-2AG offers manufacturers an agglomerated version when rapid dispersion and quick dissolution are key to product success, Fibersol-LQ is a liquid corn syrup offering added sweetness and humectancy, and Fibersol-HS is specially designed for applications where replacing liquid honey and sugar to reduce calories and adding fiber are beneficial.
