Chief science officer for the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), Silver Spring, MD, Maged Sharaf, PhD, has been appointed to the board of directors of the International Association for the Advancement of High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC Association). Dr. Sharaf was also appointed chair of the HPTLC Association Advisory Board.
The HPTLC Association convenes representatives from academia, industry, research, regulatory and standard setting bodies to promote the use of HPTLC in plant analysis and other analytical fields. As a member of the board, Dr. Sharaf will help the HPTLC Association develop and validate common standards and methods for identification of plants and their adulterants and support pharmacopoeias and similar organizations with expertise, guidance, methods and validation data.
