JOB DESCRIPTION: R&D/Patents

We are currently looking to expand our Business Development Team and seeking an individual to primarily work on research and development of new or existing products. In addition, developing trademarks or patents for these products with assistance from our Patent Lawyer. Candidate will be responsible for reviewing existing patents that are affecting the business and be able to give guidance and other strategies to prevent it from having patent litigation. Actively participate in researching of patentability; work closely with management team and International suppliers; plan and work with patent attorney to finalize the patents; initiate claim strategies to protect the business and prevent it from having infringement actions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviewing new products to determine potentially patentable features
• Identify and develop new formulations for active ingredients in the finished product
• Reviewing issued patents
• Assisting patent applications with clarity and technical accuracy
• Work with business marketing, Executive Team, and manufacturer’s in researching of patentability for new and existing products
• Conduct and review patentability studies for disclosed technologies
• Prepare and file U.S Patent applications to issue and throughout the process work closely with GWI Team and business attorneys to develop high quality, strategic application content.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
To be successful in this position the candidate must be a strong communicator, both written and oral. The candidate must be able to work independently, with a large amount of freedom.
• Bachelor degree in life sciences (Biology, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering degrees) and legal work especially in patents
• Experience with products in the nutraceutical industry and having a legal background is preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be individual motivated to succeed and measure success on a team level
• 3-4 years’ experience in trade mark and patent
