White Plains, NY-based ConsumerLab.com recently purchased, tested, and reviewed many popular eye health supplements to determine which supplements provided an effective combination and dose of ingredients, and whether or not products actually contained what was listed on labels. The results were published online in ConsumerLab.com's Product Review of Vision Supplements with Lutein and Zeaxanthin.
ConsumerLab.com's tests found that only one supplement actually provided the exact amounts of ingredients found to be most useful in reducing the risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration. Several other supplements contained similar ingredients, although in different amounts. One product failed to contain its listed amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, providing only 9% and 65%, respectively, of these key antioxidant pigments which occur in the macula of the retina.
The Product Review of Vision Supplements with Lutein and Zeaxanthin is now available online. In addition to product test results, the report discusses who is most likely to benefit from these supplements, the amounts of ingredients, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, known be effective; how to take these to supplements to maximize absorption; which products provide the best value; foods which provide lutein and zeaxanthin; as well as potential side effects. The report also explains what meso-zeaxanthin is and whether you need to get it from a supplement.
The following products are included in the report: Bausch & Lomb Ocuvite Lutein & Zeaxanthin, Bausch & Lomb PreserVision AREDS Lutein, CVS/Pharmacy Lutein, EyeScience Macular Health Formula, Finest Nutrition (Walgreen) Lutein, GNC Natural Brand Lutein, GNC Preventative Nutrition Eye Health Formula, Jarrow Formulas Lutein, LifeExtension MacuGuard Ocular Support, Lipotriad Visionary, Natural Factors Lutein, Nature's Bounty Lutein, Nutrilite Vision Health with Lutein, Ortho Molecular Products 4Sight, Puritan's Pride Lutein, Spring Valley [Walmart] Lutein, Trunature [Costco] Vision Complex, Twinlab OcuGuard Plus, USANA Visionex, Vitacost Lutein and Vitamin World Eye Guard.
