Japan-based Ajinomoto Company Inc. has entered into a global R&D alliance agreement with Kellogg Company to develop products aimed at meeting consumers’ health and nutrition needs, consistent with both companies’ commitments to open innovation.
Under the agreement, the two companies initially plan to focus on developing products that deliver benefits in the areas of weight management, sugar reduction and sodium reduction. Ajinomoto’s portfolio of ingredients that meet these opportunities includes capsiate and monatin. There are many synergistic opportunities for Ajinomoto and Kellogg to partner in order to provide greater value to consumers worldwide.
Kellogg offers numerous products with health appeal around the world, including Kellogg’s Special K and other breakfast cereals. Ajinomoto is well known for its development of new technologies and ingredients, with its base in food products, amino acids and pharmaceuticals.
“The potential for synergy between Kellogg’s strong marketing and product development capabilities combined with Ajinomoto’s excellence in basic and applied research is unique and exciting,” said Masatoshi Ito, president and CEO of Ajinomoto.
