Gelest, a manufacturer and supplier of organosilicon, tin and germanium compounds as well as metal diketonates and silicones, was highlighting Cyclic Azasilanes at ACS 2010. The new class of compounds has been synthesized by Gelest to maximize bonding efficiency, while optimizing performance in an environmentally friendly manner. Cyclic Azasilanes can be reacted with a variety of hydroxyl-laden nano-particle via a ring-opening reaction that is thermodynamically driven without the formation of volatile by-products.
According to Joel Zazyczny, Gelest’s business manager for silanes and metal organics, Cyclic Azasilanes offer a higher level of monolayer deposition compared with traditional organosilane and metal-organic chemistries and find utility as coupling agents, surface modifiers and functionalizers.
